Aged tobacco
A few years ago I began seriously investing time, effort, and especially money in populating a cellar of tobacco. There were several reasons:
1. I had finally read enough good things about aged tobacco to convince me I would notice the improvement.
2. I had grown wary of tobacco legislation which I still fear will eventually make buying from the huge variety of pipe tobacco online impossible.
3. Pipe tobacco ain't gettin' any cheaper.
My 20 years of military service are up and I've retired. To celebrate I cracked a jar of McClelland's Bulk #2015. The first bowl confirmed reason #1 above for me and replaced speculation with experience.
I've liked 2015 a long time, but fresh from the store the blend has a strong tendency to bite and there are a few sharp edges. Nearly three years in a glass jar made the blend sweeter than I remember, virtually eliminated the threat of tongue bite, and transformed the tobacco into an improved reflection of its younger self.
Were it not for reasons two and three, I would have assumed only pipe smokers with tastes more refined than mine would notice the difference. At least with #2015 the difference is remarkable.
