Video: Ashton Artisan’s Blend Review

A fantastic English, deep in Latakia and just a touch of Perique for interesting zing. Well balanced and rich.

Deacon’s Downfall by Two Friends – Cornell and Diehl

The Perique adds not only some pepper, but along with this concoction you’ll taste many of Perique’s other pungeant qualities. Less the stewed fruit and more like dried mushrooms. That along with the smokey Latakia, salty unsweetened black cavendish, and a lick of Orientals and Virginia make for a strong, assertive, masculine smoke that will stand up to the blackest coffee, a bellyfull of the hottest chili, or a few fingers of something stiff.

Pipeworks and Wilke No. 72

The tin description:

Composed of Burleys, two cuts of Virginia, Latakia and Perique. For those who enjoy true natural tobacco flavor, one of my most popular lighter English blends.

It is difficult for a blender to make this much Perique work so well. Perique is one of those things that too much is just too much. Less is usually more. With Pipeworks and Wilke No. 72 plenty is just right.

Here is another American style blend (Burley, Virginia, plus condiments) from Pipeworks and Wilke that has some complexity going for it in that the flavor changes throughout the bowl.

Abingdon by Greg Pease – Pipe Tobacco Review With Video

Video Review …this is a blend I reserve for times I can focus my attention and enjoy it. I find Abingdon abundantly satisfying in every way – especially for the richness of flavor. This is a benchmark Balkan blend. Great pipe tobacco that shouldn’t be lost among Greg’s more recent achievements.

Ashbury by Greg Pease

An alluring assortment of exotic oriental tobaccos is generously blended with bright and red Virginia leaf. Finally, just enough Cyprus Latakia is added to provide an alluring smokiness, resulting in a tobacco that can best be described as a light-medium Balkan mixture. This is the blend for gentlemen with a Bohemian spirit and a sense of adventure.

Odyssey by G. L. Pease

Odyssey is huge — the biggest of the Pease blends. It’s loaded with Latakia and harmonized by exotic Orientals. Wonderful red and jet-black stoved Virginias provide a perfect counterpoint.

G. L. Pease Maltese Falcon

Stylish, dark and alluring. Generous quantities of Cyprian Latakia are blended with matured red Virginias, exotic orientals, and just a little bright flue-cured leaf to offer a deep, full-bodied yet silky smoke with an intriguing sweetness, enhanced by a discreet and mysterious spice. Maltese Falcon possesses an exquisite balance – a wonderful all-day English style mixture.

Blackpoint by Greg Pease

Blackpoint is a luxurious blend of red and lemon Virginias, Cyprian Latakia, exotic oriental tobaccos, and a perfect measure of Louisiana perique for a lively, piquant finish. The smoke is creamy and lingering, engaging the palate with a mouth-filling array of wonderful flavours. Reminiscent of raisins and stewed figs, fireplaces in the fall, walks in [...]
